Responsibilities

• Directed technical strategy, project delivery and service support for internet banking, mobile and corporate website channels servicing 3.5M active customers each month.
• Managed teams of up to 150 developers, infrastructure engineers, testers, architects and PMs in London, Knutsford, Pune, Manila and Shanghai executing a ₤22.5M/yr project portfolio.
• Supported marketing, change and run business team of 65 to achieve ₤75M revenue in 2009.

Accomplishments

• Directed a 14-month, 46 staff, ₤11M rebuild of an 11-year-old internet banking application, enabling single sign-on, a Web2.0 user interface, improved user authentication for sensitive transactions and quicker ramp-up for offshore dev teams, enabling a £700k/yr cost savings.
• Directed a 22-month, 53 staff, ₤8M project to build a corporate website content management system, enabling non-developers to manage web content, driving a ₤1.4M/yr cost savings.
• Directed a 10-month, 150 staff, ₤8.4M hardware and security uplift project to build a scalable, secure, ISO 27001 compliant internet banking platform to support 6M active customers.
• Directed a 53 staff, ₤4.5M/yr small change program, delivering 36 projects over 8 releases in 2009, spanning compliance, revenue drivers, cost reduction, anti fraud and user experience.
• Directed a 10-month, 58 staff, ₤1.2M mobile banking program, delivering mobile browser compatible internet banking and SMS alerting, enabling annual revenue of ₤3.6M.
• Directed service stability, maintaining 99.65% availability and enabling 216M online banking sessions for 6M individual customers in 2009.
• Developed an enterprise wide content management system on-boarding model, enabling the global enterprise to leverage the UK retail bank’s content management system investments.
• Built a case for and deployed the first retail online banking team to use agile development, improving team productivity by 89% and reducing costs by 33% in 1 year.

Washington Mutual Bank, Seattle USA – eCommerce Vice President, 2002 to 2006

Responsibilities

• Directed software development for internet banking channel serving 2.5M active customers.
• Managed team of 40 developers in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Bangalore and Tempe on projects with software development budgets up to $8M.
• Managed technologies: .Net, Java, MSSQL, Voyager, Netpoint, MS OM, MS CMS, Kana.

Accomplishments

• Directed a 6-month, 75 developer, $8M, multi system integration project to allow instant online opening of paperless checking accounts, increasing new account applications from 100 to 2700 per day, saving ~$20M per year in handling costs.
• Directed a 6-month, 20 developer, $2M systems integration effort to present online, searchable bank statements, saving ~$1M/year in printing and mailing costs.
• Delivered further e-commerce projects including: Content Management System, Online Check Images, Online Loan Accounts, Multi Threaded Multi System Logon, Real Time Personalized Marketing, Email Marketing, Online Deposit Account Origination, Automated Error Handling and Monitoring.
• Negotiated contracts, chose team, designed integration process for, and directed work of bank’s first offshore developer team, saving $800K/yr in consulting fees.
• Successfully moved team project methodology from Waterfall to Agile (Scrum).
• Decreased build/deploy time from 9+ hrs to ~1 hr via build, test and deploy automation.
